After Umbrage is a charity whose vision is to provide free, short breaks for anyone who has been looking after family members or loved ones with life-limiting or terminal conditions. To date, we’ve given away 190 free holidays to carers and made such a difference to people’s lives. A large proportion of our funding comes from paid bookings of our delightful cottage. That means by booking your holiday with us, you’ll be directly contributing to furthering our vision and help fund future breaks for carers. Now that’s a win-win.
Even if you don’t decide to stay with us you can still help our charity. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated and even just spreading the word to friends and family can go a long way. Without your help, we can’t provide care and support for people caring for someone with a terminal illness. There are lots of ways to get involved, so find one that suits you.
Near the entrance of the cottage is a small cloakroom with WC and washbasin.
The living room is spacious and light, having windows on two walls and an open plan to the hallway and the oak staircase, which winds up to the first floor. There is an inglenook fireplace with log effect gas burning stove, TV, video and CD player.
THE KITCHEN/DINING ROOM
There is a comprehensively fitted kitchen featuring a dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and fridge freezer. The attached dining area features a beautiful large wooden table. Meals can also be taken on a secluded patio.
Upstairs are two beamed and vaulted bedrooms. One is a double bedroom with washbasin and breath-taking views down the Midford valley, the other features two single beds.
There is a spacious bathroom with a power shower, as well as a freestanding bath.
Sit and relax round the patio table and enjoy the beautiful views over the valley.

Reviews from our guests
This time away has given me a little happiness in the darkest of times. A time for me to come first. I cannot express enough how grateful I am – thank you. The last few months have been the worse I have ever had. I don’t feel things will ever get better, but this stay in the stunning cottage was a break from everything. The first bath I’ve had without having to rush or keep an ear out. Thank you all so much. A real opportunity to make good memories and hopefully heal bad ones. You are all real earth angels – thank you.Donna & Keith from Hertfordshire
