Carers Week 2019 runs from Monday 10th June for a week. It’s an opportunity to showcase the range of services available for carers and demonstrate how much we value their economic contribution to the UK economy. This year, we were proud to be one of the many service providers exhibiting at the Care for Carers event in Norwich. Furthermore, we made some great new connections that will help us with our quest to meet more carers. With our new friends, we can welcome more families to Kingham Cottage so they can experience the wellbeing boost our beneficiaries enjoy telling us about.
Our new friends
Norfolk Family Carers, Community Action Norfolk, Healthwatch Norfolk, Versus Arthritis and the social care team at Norfolk County Council all welcomed our contribution and listened with interest to our story – supporting carers the After Umbrage way. They know the carers we will one day meet and arrange a holiday for at our cottage.
The hosts
Peter and Chris of Care for Carers did a terrific job of organising the exhibition to support carers. We thank them for their energy and enthusiasm to bring us all together. They made it easier for people seeking support to discover how we can help them.
Bringing people together
Conversations were easy as we established common ground among the organisations exhibiting. There were common themes that we are all seeking to address. Huge topics such as loneliness, isolation, exhaustion and wellbeing were voiced. Again, this illustrates the understanding in the room and the intention to alleviate some of these difficulties. We have a long way to go but if we were being marked at school for enthusiasm and ingenuity, the group of organisations that gathered at The Forum in Norwich on Monday 10th June would get an A+ in our eyes.
Thank you
With thanks to #CarersWeek2019 for bringing us all together in common interest and The National Lottery Community Fund for giving us the financial means to sustain After Umbrage.
